Heen Ganga : හීං ගඟ

Heen Ganga is a picturesque stream located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, flowing through the remote village of Meemure. The stream originates from the eastern slopes of the Knuckles Mountain Range and extends approximately 36 kilometers before joining the Mahaweli River, the longest river in Sri Lanka. The area around Heen Ganga is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring ancient trees, rocky riverbanks, and an abundance of wildlife, including endemic fish species like the Bulath Happaya​.

Meemure itself is a secluded village with a population of around 400 people. The village is known for its traditional lifestyles and self-sufficiency, relying primarily on agriculture and fishing. The local cuisine prominently features rice, curry dishes, and freshwater fish from the Heen Ganga. Visitors to Meemure can experience a range of activities including hiking, camping, and exploring local waterfalls like Nawathna Ella and Ravana Falls​.

To reach Heen Ganga and Meemure, travelers usually take a rough, challenging route through the Hunnasgiriya mountain, making the journey best suited for four-wheel-drive vehicles or local jeeps.
