There is no definite idea of the origin of this plant and it is said that the Greeks and Egyptians used the Tamarind(Tamarindus indica) plant between the 4th and 5th centuries BC. Tamarind(Tamarindus indica) is also said to have been used in India. This is due to the fact that the scientific name of Tamarind(Tamarindus indica) has been added to the indica.
